In its first venture into narrative television, Current TV (aka: Al Jazeera America) decided to produce the world's first community-developed TV show, "Bar Karma." Executive Produced by Will Wright (creator of The Sims and Sim City) and Albie Hecht (former president of NIckelodeon), "Bar Karma" would hand everything over to its online community on the website, Creation Studios -- from the show's mythology to an episode's storyline to the intricate details of the set design, every decision originated with the online community members. And my job was to produce and direct that community. For its season-long run, I taught members of Creation Studios how to write television arcs and in the process, create a whole new way to consume and interact with TV.
Note: it was totally insane, but we learned a lot.
